Why Would You Listen to Me? The No Granola Truth Bomb of Better Health

Welcome to the first edition of No Granola Wellness. I’m calling it an “edition” because it feels like this is going to be an evolving exploration of all the ways we fight for better health. This website began as a passion project to allow me to share all I’d learned about getting diagnosed and living with endometriosis, fibroids, and adenomyosis (and all the crap before getting diagnosed). I wanted to be able to share the wealth of information I’d absorbed – to pass on things I wish someone had told me when I was fumbling around trying to figure out why, despite Herculean effort, I wasn’t feeling better. There was a lot of overwhelm for me and for my loved ones as we waded through unending information and steadfast opinions. Maybe it’s my work experience as an analyst kicking in, but there was so much material out there that I found to be sketchy or speculative at best, despite claiming to be absolute truth.

So, what I want to say up front as you browse our collection of thoughts and opinions is this:

There is no absolute truth.

There is no magic potion. No silver bullet. No one answer or method or thing that will truly, fully make things ok.

Living with chronic conditions sucks, but it doesn’t have to suck always. There’s a certain freedom to coming to terms with this, in my opinion.

Finding the mix of factors that help you rise up and feel better, that’s a very unique, individual process that no one can ever really complete for you. You have to figure it out for yourself. And there’s no short cut to it.

This is why we’re writing about the quest for better health. We exist to put out strategies, ideas, and experiences – each which may or may not spark something for you. I’m not claiming to be a lifestyle guru or the ultimate expert on everything, but I am the ultimate expert on what I’ve experienced along my healthcare journey. And if that can help even one person out there, that’s why No Granola exists and why we have the ethos of remaining healthily skeptical.

I’ve gone through what you’re likely dealing with – testing and trying and grasping at straws to get through whatever the day serves up. Whether it’s medication, supplements, modalities, or lifestyle regimens, there is no one out there who knows what works for you other than…you. I have been fortunate to have several wonderful doctors, practitioners, and fellow patients as guides on my quest to find better health. They all helped me to think about options and pushed me to fight for better, reminding me that I deserved to feel the best that I possibly could.

But at the end of the day, it was always up to me to think and choose what to try, what to abandon, and ultimately what made sense for me to incorporate into my life.

As you continue the vast Internet searches that will no doubt be part of your wellness journey, the only thing I ask of you, dear friend, is to remind yourself to take a step back and think to yourself, “Does this make sense for me?” And while I hope that our words and ideas can help somehow, be brave and remember that you deserve to feel the best that you possibly can.

Only you hold the keys to your resilience.

But you don’t have to do it alone. If you need a sounding board, I’m here for ya just like others were there for me, too.

Check out Part 1 of my diagnosis journey to see how it took 10+ years to get some answers.
